Contrary to the belief in the passage that ethanol is not a suitable
replacement for gasoline, the professor hold an opinion that ethanol
is an excellent alternative to gasoline. The lecture contradicts to the
reading regarding to several reasons.
First and foremost, despite the fact that ethanol also releases carbon
dioxide which will cause global warming, the plant that ethanol is made
from like corn and sugar cane will absorb this certain carbon dioxide.
So that ethanol can in fact improve the environment problem that gasoline
is causing, and offer environmental advantage over gasoline.
Secondly, as to the amounts of plants used to feed farm animals,
the professor points out that to product ethanol it only need part of plants,
and this part of plants is not a substantial source of food for animals. Which
is to say animals will not be in danger because of ethanol fuel.
In the end, the passage claims that ethanol fuel will never be able to
complete with gasoline on price. Unfortunately, the professor argues that
the price of ethanol will go down. Because when people start to use ethanol
fuel, the production of ethanol will increase, and then ethanol will spontaneously
became cheaper. She also demonstrates that when ethanol production became
three times greater than now, the price will drop by forty presents.
In short, the points made in lecture refute the reading.
