The rapid development of the Internet leads to information overload;
however, the explosion of information does not necessarily indicate
that contemporary students are able to find information
from various sources effectively and efficiently.
Therefore, having adequate research skills enables students
to finish their assignment or group work with ease.
If students can ___, they have the chance to ___.
As a result, students can learn adequate research skills,
which enables them to gather information from different sources
like online database and journals and make quality references in their coursework.
Therefore, their academic writing skills and quality of research can be improved significantly.
My own experience demonstrates the danger of lacking adequate research skills,
especially when we cannot tell facts from myths. Two semesters ago,
I was assigned a research paper in a ___ course.
During the course, I have learnt how to cite data.
The information that I included in my essay was so hopelessly wrong
that my professor spotted it immediately,
causing me to fail the assignment and receive
a fairly low grade in the class at the end of the semester.
If I had taken the time to compare what I had read online to a book or a scholarly article,
I would not have included it and not have received such a bad score in the class.
