Society has evolved at an unprecedented speed along with
the acceleration of science and technology.
As a result, communication has undergone significant changes in the past decades.
At the beginning of the 21st century, most people were quite content with the conveniences
brought forth by feature phones and computers.
They could call or text anyone anywhere, anytime.
without the constraint of the wire of a landline.
They could send an email instead of writing a letter to a friend
or a family member or a business partner.
Nonetheless, with the advent of smartphones and mobile internet a decade ago,
a totally different picture has unfolded itself before us.
We can make a video call via FaceTime or Skype and chat
on the IM ( instant message) app like WeChat.
The once much-criticized flaw that phone calls and text messages
were void of the benefits of face-to-face communication
is compensated by the leap in technology. Thanks to these fantastic communicative breakthroughs
, we could resume studying even when schools were suspended during
social distancing because of the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19 in the first half of 2020.
The next decade may witness even more radical changes
in the way of communication, since nothing can hold back technological progress.
All we need to do is embrace them with our eyes wide open.
